Tessera educates and empowers young women by providing an environment in which girls with a wide range of abilities from diverse backgrounds can achieve academic success. Tessera teaches a project-based curriculum, using blended learning and writing to challenge students and build graduates capable of critical and analytical thinking, while instilling sound ethics, the value of service and other experiences that help students become confident, dynamic leaders of tomorrow.
The school is open to young women in grades 6 through 12, residing in zip codes 63104, 63109, 63110, 63111, 63116, 63118 and 63139 in the City of St. Louis. In addition, students of school districts participating in the Voluntary Interdistrict Choice Corporation program will be eligible to attend Tessera. If there are remaining openings, Tessera will accept students residing in other zip codes within St. Louis city limits.
The board of directors has commissioned a working committee to identify a suitable location within the school’s planned service area. The school expects to draw a diverse mix of students from various economic and ethnic backgrounds and will provide young women a challenging college-preparatory curriculum in a microcosm of a global society. In addition, this charter school will be an investment in the vitality, sustainability, and attractiveness of the neighborhood in which it is located.
